Werken met Toegankelijke PDF/ upgrade dan NIET naar InDesign 2020! Bugs!

InDesign 2020 beloofde twee verbeteringen voor Toegankelijke (Accessible) tagged PDF: Alt-text voor hyperlinks en een met lijstfunctie genummerde kop die nu eindelijk een H tag kon krijgen ipv altijd een List tag.

Maar...
versie 2020 breekt van alles wat betreft de rest voor Toegankelijke PDF!

Een van de grootste, echt workflow brekende bugs, is dat het Artikel-venster niet meer goed werkt!
Dit Artikelen-venster maakt het mogelijk om de Tag-volgorde (zeg de 'voorleesvolgorde') aan te passen.

Doe je dit in versie CC 2019 dan is de tagvolgorde gelijk aan de Artikelvolgorde (wanneer je de optie 'Gebruiken voor PDF volgorde' aanzet uiteraard)

In 2020 belanden echter alle afbeeldingen samen aan het einde van al je tags in het document!
Dat is fouter dan fout!!

Bovendien meldt mij Amerikaanse collega Bevi Chagnon 10 minuten geleden ook dit naar aanleiding van een andere bug die mij trof: staat een afbeelding in een andere dan rechthoekige vorm zoals een zelfgetekende vectorvorm, dan wordt de afbeelding soms niet als Figure getagd!

Frans, at least you're getting something in the tag tree!

In my English (US) version, there's nothing at all for any shape, empty graphic frame, or empty text frame. Everything is completely artifacted.

See the attached sandbox files we created. They contain:

• Placed photo that is anchored into a blank paragraph. Exports correctly.
• Placed Illustrator vector graphic that is anchored into a blank paragraph. Exports correctly.
• Drawn Circle, Rectangle, and Polygon graphic shapes that are anchored into a blank paragraph. Don't export at all.
• Drawn Polygon graphic frame that is anchored into a blank paragraph. Doesn't export at all.
• Drawn text frame that is anchored into a blank paragraph. Doesn't export at all.

I don't know who decided to encode a tagged PDF this way, but it completely undermines a designer's needs to anchor these shapes and frames into blank paragraphs in order to lay out the document and produce a compliant tagged PDF with a correct reading order. This especially affects info graphics, cover designs, and other complex visual designs.

If a designer wants these items to be artifacted, they can specify "artifact" in Object Export Options.

The only one that could be automatically artifacted — in certain situations — is the empty text frame. But the drawn vector shapes must be tagged as 

, as well as the empty graphic frame.

This is a serious blow to designers and their workflow.

Frans, I'm grateful you posted this today. I was about to send my newsletter out to our accessibility subscriber lists (4,000+) with just a caution about upgrading to InDesign 2020. I'm rewriting it to say Don't Upgrade! Between Catalina, the PDF export glitches, and now this tagging problem, there are way too many deficiencies for my students and clients to upgrade at this time.
