Nieuwe DPS versie met veel verbeteringen

.

The Digital Publishing Suite tools are updated frequently. Before you update your tools, please note that creating or editing folios using a new set of tools might cause incompatibility issues with previous versions of the viewer. See Installing digital publishing tools for details.

The following features are available for the v23 release. For a compilation of release notes, see History of new feature release notes. For a list of bug fixes, see DPS Bug Fix Release Notes.

Updated Distribution Service infrastructure

Publishing folios to the Distribution Service is now significantly faster. These server changes should result in fewer timeout errors and increased reliability in background downloads for iOS Newsstand.
Folio Builder panel UI improvements

The Folio Builder panel is wider, the navigation icons are larger and more intuitive, there are more tooltips and information bubbles, options are renamed for clarity, and other improvements make the panel easier to use. You can also launch the DPS App Builder (previously called Viewer Builder) from the panel menu.
Changes to DPS App Builder (previously called Viewer Builder)

The DPS App Builder includes several interface improvements. The InDesign CS6 installer now installs the DPS App Builder.
Drag and drop files into DPS App Builder

You can now drag and drop icons, splash screens, and other files from Finder into App Builder.
Choice between vector and bitmap for slideshows and scrollable frames (iOS only)

In overlays for PDF articles, you can select Vector or Bitmap. Vector images look sharper but require a small load time. For overlays in JPG/PNG articles, slideshows and scrollable frames are always bitmap.
Multi-rendition articles (iOS only)

You can now create PDF articles that look great and perform well on both SD and HD versions of devices. When creating overlays, you can include both SD and HD assets in the folio. The viewer uses the appropriate overlay assets for the specific iOS device.
If you’re creating a single-folio app, you can create a folio using PDF articles that work well for all iPad models. If you’re creating a multi-folio app, you can choose between creating multi-rendition articles in a folio or creating separate folio renditions. See Creating multi-rendition PDF articles for iOS devices.
Play audio in background

Audio clip can play while users browse through articles in the folio. An audio button appears in the top navigation bar to let users pause and play the audio. See Audio & Video overlays.
Stop Video at Last Option (iOS only)

The Folio Overlays panel now includes an option for stopping the inline video at the last frame.
Disable controls for inline videos (iOS only)

If you create an inline video set to Auto Play, you can select the Do Not Allow Pause option to disable playback controls. This feature is especially useful for cover videos.
New Adobe Content Viewer behavior for invalid folios

In previous releases, invalid folios failed to appear in the Adobe Content Viewer. With the new release, invalid folios appear in the library and result in an error message on download. This change improves the Adobe Content Viewer library performance and provides more detailed preflighting information. For example, if you create a dual-orientation folio with one or more single-orientation articles, the error message indicates the problem rather than leaving you to guess.
PDF support for Smooth Scrolling articles (iOS only)

You can use the PDF image format for Smooth Scrolling articles regardless of their length. However, article pinch and zoom is not supported in any Smooth Scrolling article.
“Rate the App” option

When you create a custom viewers, you can select an option that allows a “Rate the App” prompt to appear. You can customize settings for this feature in the DPS App Builder.
Hot Zones for displaying navigation bars

In addition to the hot zones on the sides of the article page, there is a new hot zone option for the bottom of the article page. Tapping in the hot zone area at the bottom of the page displays the navigation bars (also called the “HUD”). Tapping anywhere above the bottom hot zone does not display the navigation bars. See App Details panel.
Buttons take precedence over the bottom hot zone, the bottom hot zone takes precedence over the side hot zones, and hot zones take precedence over all non-button overlays.
Analytics opt out option

In the DPS App Builder, you can allow your customers to turn off analytics while using your app. This option is especially useful in certain regions with strict controls over data collection.
Customizable viewer strings

You can customize all strings stored in the viewer in all supported languages, including button text in the library and text in dialog boxes. The DPS App Builder lets you download an XML template. You can then edit this XML file and specify it while building your app. See App Details panel.
Social Sharing enhancements (iOS only)

Note the following Social Sharing improvements. See Using social sharing.
  • Support for Web Viewer direct entitlement (Enterprise only). When customers hit the paywall limit in Web Viewer, they can now sign in using their subscription account to continue viewing articles.
  • Web Viewer supports Internet Explorer 10/Windows 8.
  • You can also set up a paywall for free folios.
  • The Web Viewer supports all overlays except for panoramas and audio clips.
  • If you create a 1024x768 folio using PDF image format, the content is now uploaded to the Web Viewer server in PNG format.
New Step-by-Step Publishing Guide for Single Edition

When you click the link on the Dashboard to download the DPS Publishing Companion Guide, a .zip file is downloaded that contains both the Companion Guide for Professional and Enterprise publishers and a Step-by-Step Publishing Guide for Single Edition users. You can also download the Step-by-Step Publishing Guide PDF when you sign in to the DPS App Builder using a Creative Cloud account. In the near future, the Pro/Enterprise Companion Guide will be updated with the new design.

The latest release of Digital Publishing Suite contains features that will enhance the reader’s audio and video experience, as well as allow them to provide feedback while they are in the app. For production staff, the Folio Builder tools have been redesigned to enable more efficiency for designers. Last, as you have likely heard, we announced the launch of Single Edition in Creative Cloud, allowing Creative Cloud members to publish an unlimited number of single-issue apps for free.
Name Change: “Viewer Builder” is now “DPS App Builder”
With a growing list of customers using Digital Publishing Suite, we decided to change the name of “Viewer Builder” to “DPS App Builder.” We selected the name based on interviews with customers, and learned it is more intuitive for first-time users of Digital Publishing Suite.
“Rate this app” for gathering feedback
On iOS devices, your readers can now rate your app after reading a handful of articles. Digital Publishing Suite allows you to set the number of articles that a reader will view before being asked to provide a rating. At that point, the window pictured above will appear, the reader will rate the app, and the rating will be integrated into the iTunes store, allowing publishers to receive reviews from readers who were in the midst of enjoying the publication.
Paywall for free folios in web viewer
When an article has been shared via social media, the recipient can view the article in the DPS web viewer. Up until this point, publishers could create a paywall for paid folios, asking readers to purchase the publication after reading a specified number of articles in the web view. Now, publishers can set up a paywall for free folios – such as catalogs or brochures — before providing access to the full publication. You can customize the text and the destination on the paywall to build up your existing customer database.
Inline video without controls
(iOS only) Our customers have requested the ability to embed a video that automatically plays without being paused, and stops at the final frame. For example, the Martha Stewart cover from February 2011 plays an opening video of chocolate being drizzled over ice cream. This feature allows readers to experience the full video before proceeding to the next page. Your production staff can set this up in the Video Overlays panel.
Multi-Resolution PDF folios:
When the new iPad was released, Colin Fleming created a set of guidelines for designing different renditions for standard definition and high definition iPads. Now, your production staff can create one PDF folio that targets retina and non-retina iPads, and it is not necessary to create two renditions. Renditions will still need to be created for different devices with varying aspect ratios (Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone), but not for different resolutions of the same device. It is still possible to create a high definition and standard definition versions of multi-folio apps in order to reduce folio size. View Bob Bringhurst’s DPS Help site for more detail. Stay tuned for an article from Colin Fleming in the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Developer Center.

Folio Builder panel updates
The DPS User Experience team has worked closely with designers to develop an efficient and streamlined workflow for producers. In particular, the panel menu commands contain background information, providing guidance during the design process. Other highlights include: default selections based on target device, navigation enhancements, information about folio resolution, a link to the Single Edition DPS App Builder through the panel menu, etc. Download the latest version of the Digital Publishing Suite Folio Builder panel to see it in action.
Background audio
(iOS) Audio does not have to automatically stop when the reader turns the page. Now, when your publication includes an audio overlay, the reader can navigate to a new article, continue listening to the audio, and pause it from the top-level navigation bar. The controller will start or stop the most recent audio file that the reader played.
Customize text in the app
Digital Publishing Suite is used in over 50 countries, with many emerging use cases. Now, using XML code in the App Builder, developers can customize dialog boxes, error messages, and button text in the library. It can also be used to tailor language to the voice of your publication. As an example, the library pictured above uses “Get issue” instead of “Download,” and “Read issue,” instead of “View.”
For more information on how to set this up, see the Help Site App Details section on using customized strings.
Hot zones to activate navigation bar: (iOS) Using App Builder, publishers can designate a hot zone at the bottom of the page that pulls up the navigation bar. When this is set up, readers can tap anywhere else on the page and the navigation bar will not appear.
PDF smooth scrolling: Digital Publishing Suite now supports smooth scrolling layouts in PDF.
Single Edition launch with Creative Cloud
Creative Cloud members can now create an unlimited number of Single Edition iPad apps for free. This allows freelancers to provide extra services for clients without incurring the cost of app publication. View the Single Edition blog post to learn more.

Ik krijg in mijn Overlay Creator geen optie tot background audio. Hoe kan dit komen? Ik gebruik cs5.5 en heb de laatste versie van de content viewer.
